ALONA UMALI

 

 

Alona joined Dr. Anslyn’s group in August 2006 as postdoctoral fellow and previously worked for Dr. Frank Raushel of Texas A&M University (2004-2006) on inhibition studies of E. coli carbamoyl phosphate synthetase with synthesized phosphonates and nucleotide phosphonates. She obtained her Ph.D. in chemistry under Dr. Eric Simanek, TAMU (1999-2004), working on the synthesis and evaluation of dendrimers based on melamine as possible vehicles for drug delivery. Prior to grad school, Alona worked as a research assistant at the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Philippines and served as lab instructor in general and organic chemistry at the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, where she also obtained her bachelors in chemistry.
