Jane will have a signing for her new book with Gayle Waldrip on
December 4, 1999, in Burnet,Texas. Jane and Gayle both grew up in Burnet, so
this will be a kind of homecoming for them. The time is yet to be determined,
but the signing will be at the gift shop, where the new book, "Texas in
Bloom", is already available. It is a unique wildflower book for children
and, among other things, has 20 beautiful, full color photographs of Texas wildflowers.

Texas Book Festival:Mother Tree and Rights for Children Exhibit
Jane exhibited and signed her latest book "The Mother Tree" at the Texas Book Festival held at the Capitol in Austin on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, 1997. The new book was exhibited, by invitation, at the Book Publishers of Texas booth and was received extremely warmly. It tells Isamu Taniguchi's uniquely touching story about how he was inspired to build the Oriental Garden in Austin and present it to the people of Austin. It is a full color book with lovely illustrations. The Rights for Children Posters , in both English and Spanish language versions, were also presented and were very popular with school librarians, teachers, and parents.The author was also selected to be interviewed on KXAN-TV in the Governor's Mansion as the children's book author representative during the Texas Book Festival.

- Jane was at the Congress Avenue Booksellers on May 21, from noon until 1:00 to sign for Hector and to celebrate Texas Writers Month.
- Barnes and Noble at the Arboretum sponsored a "Bat Party" and book signing on June 19 at 7:00 P.M. Jane was present to sign for "Hector".
- Toad Hall Books Store held a Book Festival on June 27 at 1:00. Jane was present to sign for Hector,The Story of Mother Tree, and Rights for Children Posters.
Conferences for Children's Book Writers
Jane will present writer's conferences at the University of Texas at Austin(February 7 and 8 and 21,22) and at the University of Texas at Arlington(March 27,28 and April 3,4).A two day writer's conference is also scheduled for Texas Women's University, tentatively in August or September of 1998.
Story Times and Book Fairs.
Jane recently presented story times at Eanes and Barton Creek Elementary Schools. She also participated in the book fairs at these schools.She will be an invited author at the AISD Young Authors' Conference at Campbell Elementary School on May 2. She will also speak at the P.F.Stewart Elementary School in San Antonio on May 15.
Book Signings
BARNES AND NOBLE-WESTLAKE STORE BOOK SIGNING:

Jane will present a story time and sign her book "The Story of Mother Tree" at the Westlake Barnes and Noble at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday, February 14, 1998.
Barnes and Noble-Arlington Book Signing:
Jane will give a lecture and sign her book "The Story of Mother Tree" at the Barnes and Noble store in Arlington,TX from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 26,1998.
Pyrowriters' Meetings:
The April and May, 1998 Pyrowriters' Meetings
At the April 18 meeting, which took place at Jane's home, the PyroWriters agreed on co-publishing a story book collection including songs, puzzles, and games, as well as poems and stories . The next meeting has been scheduled for May 17, at noon. Final details for the publication will be decided upon at that meeting.
The December meeting of the Pyrowriters convened at the Brick Oven Restaurant on Red River in Austin. Members read new stories for applause and helpful input.The next meeting is scheduled for February 15 at 2:00 P.M. at a venue to be determined. Call Evelyn Allen at 453-5324 for information.
BACK TO SCHOOL CHILD DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR.Jane was invited to provide a back to school seminar for the faculty of Hyde Park Child Development Center on Monday, August 11. The seminar topics included the following:
- Getting ready
- Staying centered
- Overcoming burn-out
- Relationships with children, parents, and co-workers
TEXAS BAPTIST WEEKDAY MINISTRIES CONFERENCE:There will be a Rights for Children Exhibition at the Texas Baptist Conference on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, on October 18, 1997.
PYROWRITERS SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS:The writers' support group from Jane's previous conferences met at Jane's home at 5808 Westmont Drive on August 2, 1997. Activities included swimming and reading ,as well as a demonstration of "Paint Brush" and a Puppet Show from original stories.
THE SEPTEMBER PYROWRITERS MEETING:The group met on Speptember 4 at Water House. Donna Hoffman presented a demonstration on how to access materials and equipment from Women in Electronic Media. Arrangements are being made to host each writer reading her work on Co-op Radio. Also in progress are plans to help Pyrowriters produce an audio cassette of stories for children, with each author reading her own work.
