JULY

BLESSING HOUSE, BASTROP: JANE WILL READ AND PRESENT HER BOOKS AT THE BLESSING HOUSE BED AND BREAKFAST IN BASTROP ON JULY 14. Jane will read "The Adventures of Hector", "The Journey of the Third Seed", and "Mother Tree" at 10:00, 12:00, and 2:00, respectively.

NORTHWEST AUSTIN NEWCOMER'S ASSOCIATION: Jane will be discussing her friendship with Isamu Taniguchi, the designer and builder of the Austin Oriental Garden in Zilker Park and reading her latest children's book about the garden: "The Journey of the Third Seed."

GIRL SCOUT ACTIVITIES

****Jane will be presenting to Girl Scout Troop #953 in Pflugerville on April 22, 2001 to assist the scouts in earning badges in both writing and computing.***

***Jane visited Baghdad Elementary School on Monday, February 12,2001 and Govalle Elementary School on Tuesday, February 13 to read to classes there.

Jane will have a signing for her new book with Gayle Waldrip on December 4, 1999, in Burnet,Texas. Jane and Gayle both grew up in Burnet, so this will be a kind of homecoming for them. The time is yet to be determined, but the signing will be at the gift shop, where the new book, "Texas in Bloom", is already available. It is a unique wildflower book for children and, among other things, has 20 beautiful, full color photographs of Texas wildflowers.

EPISCOPAL LIBRARY CONFERENCE.

Jane will be autographing her books at the Episcopal Library Conference on Friday, October 22, from 10-12 noon.

Jane has received an invitation to participate in the French Legation's program "Texas Christian Traditions"


Jane will be presenting and signing her books at the celebration on December 5, from 12-5 p.m. at the French Legation (I 35 at 7th St, NE corner of I35, in rear).

Child Development Seminar at Hyde Park Pre-School

As a part of the celebration of Naitonal Book Week, Jane will present a story hour at the Ralph W. Yarborough Public Library on November 18,1999 at 11:00 a.m. Jane will also provide an opportunity to make bat finger puppets.

Jane will be reading her new book entitled "Never,Ever Shake a Baby" at the wooldridge School on September 1, 1999. KXAN will cover the reading.

HECTOR BURIED IN TIME CAPSULE


A copy of "Hector's Escapades: The Fiorst Night Out" was buried in a time capsule at Taylor elementary School. He is to be retrieved in 25 years.

BARNES AND NOBLE-LUBBOCK BOOK FESTIVAL


Barnes and Noble and the Lubbock Area Coalition for Literary Growth will present the 3rd Annual "Raising a Reader" Book Festival on May 5 and 6, 2000. Jane will visit Lubbock area schools on Friday, May 5, attend the gala that evening, and have a Reading and Booksigning on Saturday, May 6 from 11:00 - 4:00 P.M.For further information, please call Ann Boggs, Community Relations Coordinator at (806)798-8854.

INTERVIEW ON FOX TV

Jane will be interviewed on Fox TV on Wednesday, May 19, for the evening news. The interview focuses on Jane's new book for Any Baby Can on the shaking baby syndrome.

Texas Writers' Month


Jane was invited to participate in the celebration of Texas Writers' Month by Barnes and Noble and GSD&M Idea City on Tuesday, May 4, 1999, from 7:00-10:00 P.M.

Austin Writers Day


Jane will be part of the autographing panel for Austin Writers Day at Toad Hall Bookstore, in the 26 Doors Courtyard, at 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 8.

RISING STAR WRITING PROGRAM


On Monday, May 24,1999, Jane will speak at the Steiner Ranch Elementary School as part of the Rising Star Writing Program.

Bat Party at Barnes and Noble-Waco


Jane will read and sign her Hector books, including the new "Hector Saves the Moon" at Barnes and Noble in Waco, Texas on Friday evening, June 4, from 7-8:30.Jane will present an entertaining talk about the bats and will read her latest Hector book to the children. Refreshments will be served and bat puppet construction will be offered.

Jane participated in a panel discussion in the Capitol at 2:30 on Saturday. On Sunday at 2:30 she read "Hector's Escapades" in the Childrens' Tent on the Capitol grounds.During the book festival,she also was at the Eakin Press booth to sign for Hector, at the Pyrowriters' booth to sign for "Come to the Gathering", and at the booth of the Austin Society for Childrens' Book Writers and Illustrators to sign for "The Story of Mother Tree" and "Rights for Children" posters.

Texas Book Festival:Mother Tree and Rights for Children Exhibit

Jane exhibited and signed her latest book "The Mother Tree" at the Texas Book Festival held at the Capitol in Austin on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, 1997. The new book was exhibited, by invitation, at the Book Publishers of Texas booth and was received extremely warmly. It tells Isamu Taniguchi's uniquely touching story about how he was inspired to build the Oriental Garden in Austin and present it to the people of Austin. It is a full color book with lovely illustrations. The Rights for Children Posters , in both English and Spanish language versions, were also presented and were very popular with school librarians, teachers, and parents.The author was also selected to be interviewed on KXAN-TV in the Governor's Mansion as the children's book author representative during the Texas Book Festival.

Jane signed "The Story of Mother Tree" at Toad Hall Children's Book Store on Saturday, December 6, from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Conferences for Children's Book Writers

Jane will present writer's conferences at the University of Texas at Austin(February 7 and 8 and 21,22) and at the University of Texas at Arlington(March 27,28 and April 3,4).A two day writer's conference is also scheduled for Texas Women's University, tentatively in August or September of 1998.

Story Times and Book Fairs.

Jane recently presented story times at Eanes and Barton Creek Elementary Schools. She also participated in the book fairs at these schools.She will be an invited author at the AISD Young Authors' Conference at Campbell Elementary School on May 2. She will also speak at the P.F.Stewart Elementary School in San Antonio on May 15.

BARNES AND NOBLE-WESTLAKE STORE BOOK SIGNING:

Jane will present a story time and sign her book "The Story of Mother Tree" at the Westlake Barnes and Noble at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday, February 14, 1998.

Barnes and Noble-Arlington Book Signing:

Jane will give a lecture and sign her book "The Story of Mother Tree" at the Barnes and Noble store in Arlington,TX from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 26,1998.

Pyrowriters' Meetings:

The April and May, 1998 Pyrowriters' Meetings

At the April 18 meeting, which took place at Jane's home, the PyroWriters agreed on co-publishing a story book collection including songs, puzzles, and games, as well as poems and stories . The next meeting has been scheduled for May 17, at noon. Final details for the publication will be decided upon at that meeting.

The December meeting of the Pyrowriters convened at the Brick Oven Restaurant on Red River in Austin. Members read new stories for applause and helpful input.The next meeting is scheduled for February 15 at 2:00 P.M. at a venue to be determined. Call Evelyn Allen at 453-5324 for information.

BACK TO SCHOOL CHILD DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR.Jane was invited to provide a back to school seminar for the faculty of Hyde Park Child Development Center on Monday, August 11. The seminar topics included the following:
TEXAS BAPTIST WEEKDAY MINISTRIES CONFERENCE:There will be a Rights for Children Exhibition at the Texas Baptist Conference on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, on October 18, 1997.

PYROWRITERS SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS:The writers' support group from Jane's previous conferences met at Jane's home at 5808 Westmont Drive on August 2, 1997. Activities included swimming and reading ,as well as a demonstration of "Paint Brush" and a Puppet Show from original stories.

THE SEPTEMBER PYROWRITERS MEETING:The group met on Speptember 4 at Water House. Donna Hoffman presented a demonstration on how to access materials and equipment from Women in Electronic Media. Arrangements are being made to host each writer reading her work on Co-op Radio. Also in progress are plans to help Pyrowriters produce an audio cassette of stories for children, with each author reading her own work.
